The Currency Converter quickly estimates how much an amount in one currency is worth in another, using approximate mid-market exchange rates. It's handy for rough budgeting before a trip, comparing prices listed in different currencies, or sanity-checking a quote from a bank or money-transfer service — though for an actual transaction you should always check live rates, since this tool's rates are updated periodically rather than in real time.
Converted Amount = Amount × Exchange RateThe exchange rate represents how many units of the 'to' currency one unit of the 'from' currency is worth. This calculator computes cross-rates by routing through USD: amount ÷ (from-rate vs USD) × (to-rate vs USD).
Example 1: USD to EUR
Converting $1,000 USD to Euros at an approximate rate of 0.92 EUR per USD.
$1,000 ≈ €920.00
Example 2: GBP to USD
Converting £500 to US Dollars at an approximate rate of 1 GBP ≈ 1.274 USD (derived from rates vs. USD).
£500 ≈ $637.00
Methodology
Conversion: amount ÷ from-rate × to-rate (all rates expressed vs USD). Rates are approximate mid-market values updated periodically, not real-time.
Major currency pairs trade 24/5 in global forex markets and rates fluctuate every second. The rates in this calculator are approximate mid-market rates updated periodically. For live rates, use xe.com or your bank's official rate.
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between buy and sell prices. Banks and money transfer services add a margin (spread) of 1–5%, which is their fee. You always receive less than the mid-market rate in a real transaction.
Wise (formerly TransferWise) and Revolut typically offer rates closest to mid-market for international transfers. Traditional banks often have the worst rates. Always compare before transferring large amounts.
